Volunteer Therapy Assistant

As a Volunteer Therapy Assistant, you will support the delivery of high-quality physiotherapy and occupational therapy services to ellenor’s patients, carers, and families. The Volunteer Therapy Assistant will work alongside qualified therapists to enhance patient experience and wellbeing through compassionate, practical support in both group and individual settings.

The Role
• Assist therapists in preparing therapy spaces and equipment for sessions.
• Support patients during therapy sessions, encouraging participation and engagement.
• Help maintain a safe, tidy, and welcoming environment for therapy activities.
• Escort or accompany patients to and from therapy areas where appropriate.
• Provide friendly conversation and emotional support to patients during sessions.
• Support therapists with basic administrative tasks such as setting up activity materials, logging attendance, or filing resources.
• Always observe and respect patient confidentiality and professional boundaries.
• Report any concerns about patient wellbeing to a supervising therapist or staff member promptly.
• Join therapists on home visits to support patients in the community.

About you:
• A warm, empathetic, and non-judgmental approach.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Physically able to assist with basic movement-based tasks (reasonable adjustments can be made).
• Willingness to learn and work under the direction of therapists.
• Reliable, punctual, and able to work independently once trained.
• Respect for diversity and a commitment to inclusion.
• A genuine interest in supporting people with life-limiting illnesses and their families.

Training and Support Provided:
• Full induction and relevant training for the role.
• Ongoing supervision and support from the Therapy Team.
• Opportunities to attend relevant training or development workshops.

Please note to volunteer in the hospice applicants must be over the age of 18, have the right to volunteer in the UK and the role requires an Enhanced DBS. This is not a paid role.
