This significant win marks the first time in nearly three years that the top £10,000 prize has been claimed. The last big winner scooped £6,000 in June 2024, and with no top prize winners since, the jackpot rolled over to its maximum amount – prompting our team to make one unforgettable call.
Geoff, who had been a player since 2018, was understandably taken aback by the call on a Thursday morning: “Seriously? Is this a wind up? Where are you calling from?” were his words when told the news, asking to check it was real.
Previously, Geoff had only ever won two prizes of £10 in his seven years of playing, so the win was a total surprise. The windfall has come at a particularly meaningful time – after his partner sadly died from Parkinson’s in November 2024 following a long illness, he’s moving to be closer to family in Berkshire, and the money will make it a bit easier. He began playing our lottery when his partner first became ill; her diagnosis made him think more about the care of the elderly, prompting him to support us.
Geoff is looking forward to celebrating with his sister and family – and intends to keep playing the lottery to support our work which includes hospice and at-home care for people with life-limiting illness, wellbeing services such as play and music therapy and counselling. It also recently unveiled its new Wellbeing Centre which includes a sensory room for children, a fitness studio and even a small cinema room.
Pictured receiving his £10,000 cheque, Geoff was still in disbelief until he saw the giant cheque and had it in his hands.
