Twilight IS BACK!
THE NIGHT GRAVESEND TURNS ORANGE: TWILIGHT WALK RETURNS THIS SEPTEMBER
More than a thousand people are expected to fill the streets of Gravesend this September as ellenor’s much-loved Twilight Walk returns for another unforgettable evening of remembrance, community and support, with this year’s event set to raise more than £100,000 for local hospice care.
At first, you notice the orange. Glow sticks wrapped around wrists. Neon tutus. Flashing bunny ears. Handwritten names across the backs of T-shirts.
Then you notice something else.
Friends hugging in the street. Teenagers walking beside grandparents. Children asking questions about relatives they never had the chance to properly know. Stories shared between friends and families as they walk side by side through the town.
People take part for deeply personal reasons. Some walk in memory of someone they love. Others walk to say thank you for the care and support ellenor gave to someone close to them.
“Working on the children’s team at ellenor has made the Twilight Walk an amazing event to walk in memory of all the children we’ve cared for and supported over the years. It has been a privilege to be part of their lives.
After losing my mum and dad last year, it has become even more emotional for me, walking in memory of my parents and the wonderful care my dad received from ellenor at the end of his life” – Sam Pollitt ellenor Children’ Care Assistant.
What began more than 15 years ago as a fundraising event has grown into ellenor’s flagship fundraiser and one of the charity’s most emotional community events.
The event is generously sponsored by headline sponsor Esquire Developments, whose support is helping make this year’s Twilight Walk possible and ensuring vital funds can be raised for local hospice care.
ellenor Chief Executive Jon Quinn said: “Twilight Walk is a powerful reminder of the role hospices play within their communities. For many people taking part, the evening is deeply personal. It is a chance to remember loved ones, reflect on experiences of hospice care and help ensure ellenor can continue being there for other families in the future. This will be my first Twilight Walk with ellenor and I’m really looking forward to being part of it.”
KMFM Breakfast presenter Numi will once again be joining this year’s Twilight Walk.
”I’m so excited to be involved with ellenor’s sponsored Twilight Walk again this year! ellenor is a truly special place ran by an amazing team of staff and volunteers. I took part in the Twilight Walk for the first time last year and it is such an incredible event to be a part of where the whole town and community comes together. The energy is indescribable! I can’t wait to be a part of it again this year to help raise funds for them to continue their vital work.”
The Twilight Bus, kindly provided by Fastrack, will also return this year, allowing supporters unable to walk the full route to still be part of the evening alongside friends and family.
Funds raised through Twilight Walk help ellenor continue providing specialist hospice care for adults and children with life-limiting illnesses across North Kent and Bexley.
The Twilight Walk takes place on Friday 18 September.
For many families, it will be a night of remembrance. For others, a chance to say thank you. And for hundreds more, an opportunity to walk beside a community that understands.
