The Valuable Difference Gifts In Wills Make

The Valuable Difference Gifts In Wills Make

In case we haven’t met before, I’m pleased to introduce myself. I’m Vee Owers and I’m Legacy Manager at ellenor. Gifts in Wills are very important to our work. We simply couldn’t offer the range of care and services we do without legacy gifts. Currently, around 12% of our work is funded in this way and we are therefore incredibly grateful to those kind supporters who have chosen to take this special step. But the number of people in our community is rising and with it, the need for our services is also growing.

Knowing we have money coming to us from gifts in Wills, even if we’re not sure exactly when we will receive it, helps ensure we can plan ahead to meet this increased demand. Will you share your thoughts on leaving a gift in your will to ellenor? If you’re thinking about leaving a gift in your Will or have already chosen to do so, it would really help us to hear more.

Why I’m passionate about hospice care
The reason I’m passionate about the care and support ellenor provide is because of my Dad, Martin. He was very much a family man who led a happy and healthy life and loved his job as a motoring journalist testing out new and classic cars. On his days off, he enjoyed time with me, my Mum and sisters, doing the gardening or sharing his passion for nature on walks around our local woods. Then when my Dad was in his early 60’s we started to notice he wasn’t behaving like himself.

After various tests and investigations, he was eventually diagnosed with a brain tumour. Non print perf. It was a big shock to our family when my Dad was given a few months to live. For a while we were all reeling. The news was so unexpected. As we navigated his changing needs, the support he received from our local hospice was a lifeline. My Dad was able to keep living at home while attending day centre sessions at the hospice. He enjoyed the organised activities, met new friends – and loved the hot dinners they served up! The respite care my family received was also invaluable.

When my eldest niece was born, it meant my Mum could have a break to support my sister. It was a really proud family moment when we took my baby niece into the hospice to meet my Dad for the first time. ellenor – vital support from diagnosis onwards Because of my experience, I came to work for ellenor knowing just how important the care and support we provide can be. Not just for individuals facing a life-limiting illness, but for their families and loved ones too. ellenor are dedicated to enabling every person we support to have a seamless and personal experience that meets their needs and wishes. Whether that’s on our Inpatient Ward, at home in the community or through our Wellbeing Services like physiotherapy, financial support and play therapy for children, ellenor are there for everyone, at every step of the journey.
